“New York City has more than its share of theatre companies, but what sets us apart is our charitable mission,” said John C. Taylor, the Blue Hill Troupe’s sitting president, via email. “Since 1924, we’ve donated close to $4 million dollars to local charities. As much as we love to perform, our membership is regularly moved to tears by first-hand accounts from those whose lives have been turned around by our charity partners. QSAC provides an invaluable service to adults and children throughout the city, and we are thrilled to partner with them for our 90th anniversary productions of The Drowsy Chaperone and Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore. Art really can change people’s lives. We’re proof of it.”
“QSAC is thrilled to partner with the Blue Hill Troupe on their 2013-2014 season,” added QSAC’s executive director/CEO Gary Maffei. “We firmly believe that the arts — especially theatre — help us to bring about meaningful social change while raising awareness about autism and the need for supportive and person-centered services for children and adults with autism throughout our community.”
The Drowsy Chaperone features a Tony Award-winning score by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and a Tony-winning book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar.Other members of the creative team include music director and conductor Andrew David Sotomayor, set designer Alexander Tepper, lighting designer Lauren Bremen and costume designer Kate Weiman.
