Performance raises $250K for RI’s Casino Theatre

NEWPORT, RI, July 8, 2011 – A special performance at the historic Casino Theatre in Newport, R.I. has raised a quarter-million dollars for restoration of the historic facility.

Salve Regina University, which manages the theater, says a performance of H.M.S. Pinafore by the New York City-based Blue Hill Troupe last month raised $250,000.

The money will support the restoration of the playhouse, which is on the grounds of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

The 400-seat-theater was constructed in 1880 and has been designated a National Historic Landmark.
